Jeff,
For
quite quite some time I have been on a search for a web based product
to collaboratively support all aspects of the NPD process for chip
development. A few months back I was introduced to an application that
easily fills the requirements and wanted to share what I have found.
PIEmatrix
is the tool, providing a slick web based solution that can be
configured to meet the semiconductor NPD requirements, easily beating
the competition in this space. The PIEmatrix solution handles all the
pertinent information that is required to drive, track, document and
guide a NPD project. I have configured the practices for a typical
semiconductor project in this revolutionary tool and wanted to share my
implementation with you. Please read on to learn about the capabilities
of this tool for enabling predictable product development for your
organization.

The Slices
and Layers Concept is Key The
diagram above presents the slices or phases that a typical project
would have. I have established a baseline set for this example,
however they are completely configurable by the user. Slices run
vertically through all of the layers, which are the best practices or
work flow for each of the disciplines within a NPD organization.
Simple
Practices Setup

The
above view is where the practices are setup. Practices are best defined
as the agreed work flow and sequence of a NPD project. Each box
represents a logical grouping of associated tasks. There is a tab for
configuration of all tasks, resources and documentation associated with
each of the defined task groupings.

The Status
Page is Simple yet Complete
The view above is the normal view associated
with updating the project. Any
of the slices and layer views may be selected for status and/or
updating. Updates are simple to do and available to the entire team
through the web interface.
Snapshot View of the Project
This
Project Status view above provides a high level status of what's
started, what's completed, what's not started, what's in progress and
where the issues are. It's an excellent snapshot of where things are
at. Download presentation here.
To
get a true feeling of capabilities for this new tool you need to see it
live. I am sure you will be as impressed as I have been. Ready to learn
more about this great new application?
